Seeds of Poetry, Thoughts, and Venom

I am an RN working with cancer patients. Have been doing so for close to 8 years. Sometimes, I feel like a glorified waitress who pushes morphine and acts as a scapegoat for patients, families, doctors, and management. Sometimes, it's amazing.

I moved to upstate New York from Texas(where I had spent my entire life) in March 2008 to be with my now-husband who I dated long distance for right at a year. Daniel, our first child, arrived on 1/12/09. Our second child, also a boy, only made it to 12 weeks gestation and left us in December 2010. I ended up with 5 total, 4 consecutive losses ranging from chemical pregnancy to 17 weeks. Our 2nd living son, Nathaniel, arrived on 11/5/12 after finally finding a specialist and medication regimen to allow another term pregnancy.

I have a degree in English with minor in Spanish(and that helped get me a string of office jobs, ennui, and layoffs, hence the career change). I love language, really need to brush up on my Spanish, and tend to be one of those annoying grammar/spelling Nazis, but am often too polite to correct anyone.

I love to hike, especially where there are mountains: Colorado, Canada, Montana, and Big Bend. I love to travel(or used to, before kids made it a nightmare) far far from the small backwards Texas town in which I spent 20 suffocating years. I write poetry. Pablo Neruda is my favorite poet with his "pick it up off the page and eat it" sensual imagery.

I'm a bleeding heart liberal, vegetarian of 16 years, agnostic feminist. Look at the labels fly! I think I've become much less annoying versions of these over the years...I dislike proselytizing and won't try to convince you to convert to my beliefs. Thank god we're all different. I can be as guilty as anyone with taking myself too seriously, but can also see how ludicrous that is in this fleeting dot of a life on this speck of dust of a planet.

I have a love/hate relationship with food. I sometimes think animals are more highly evolved than we are. I like to read. I'm simultaneously amazed and revolted by the polar possibilities of humanity. My head spins at the greys of morality, and I have the crippling ability to see too many perspectives. I'm that annoying person who will argue for the rights of the most despicable criminal, because black and white evil and good don't exist in my world. Maybe I should've been a lawyer.

This is the longest-running journal I've ever kept(paper or otherwise).

Eat tiramisu with your hands, jump out of a plane, change your job, change your life, and write about it here. We're all waiting.
